Dr. Mohamed Khan, M.D., PAD
Cardiovascular, Peripheral Arterial Disease and Clinical Hypertension Specialist, The Cardiovascular CenterBiography
Dr. Mohamed Khan, a cardiovascular and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) specialist, began his medical career with a United Nations Scholarship at the University of Alexandria, Egypt, graduating in 1983. After completing his residency in New York and serving as an attending physician in California, he was inspired by his mother’s battle with heart disease to focus on cardiovascular care.
He founded a free clinic in her honor and pursued advanced fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and PAD. Dr. Khan has held leadership roles, including Medical Director at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South and Shasta Regional Medical Center, where he currently practices. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of multiple prestigious medical colleges.
Shasta County Health & Human Services Agency
The Health and Human Services Agency provides a wide range of services aimed at ensuring a safe, healthy, and productive life for all. Their discussion topic will focus on relevant diabetic epidemiology statistics in Northern California as well as methods to prevent diabetes. HHSA offers a wide variety of services that are briefly summarized below:
- Children’s Services Branch: Supports children’s safety and mental well-being, investigates abuse and neglect, licenses foster homes, provides adoption services, and offers mental health and substance abuse services for Medi-Cal beneficiaries up to age 21.
- Adult Services Branch: Focuses on mental health and substance abuse services for adults, including crisis evaluations, outpatient care, and support for those in need of guardianship. It also administers social services like Adult Protective Services, In-Home Supportive Services, and Public Guardian services.
- Public Health Branch: Works on preventing communicable diseases, chronic diseases, and other public health issues, promotes healthy behaviors, and maintains an emergency response unit.
- Economic Mobility Branch: Provides localized services such as food assistance (CalFresh), Medi-Cal, employment services (CalWORKs), and support programs like WIC, aimed at fostering economic stability and family well-being.
